The guest list over 150 people attending the event includes the President of the Regional Council of Gipuzkoa, the President of the Basque Parliament, the Mayoress of Bergara and the Minister for Economic Development and Competitiveness, all of who will be joining the company's staff in the celebrations.
The company was first set up to produce shoes before moving on to the nail sector, and emerged from the last few decades as a leading company in the design and manufacture of forging tools and high-tech machinery.
Bergara (Gipuzkoa), 05 November 2014The 112 Lazpiur staff members and over 150 guests attended today's Centennial celebration of the company with head offices in the town of Bergara. The event was presided over by the Lehendakari (Basque President), Iñigo Urkullu, who was accompanied by leading, authoritative figures. These included the President of the Regional Council of Gipuzkoa, Martín Garitano; the President of the Basque Parliament, Bakartxo Tejeria; the Mayoress of Bergara, Jaoine Isazelaia; and the Minister for Economic Development and Competitiveness, Arantza Tapia.
The event was also attended by many representatives of the Basque business fabric, such as the Chairman of the of Guipuzcoa Entrepreneur Association, Adegi, Pello Guibelalde; and its secretary general, José Miguel Ayerza; together with the former chairmen of Confebask, Baltasar Errasti and Román Knörr, and its former secretary generals José Zubia and Nuria Lópes de Guereñu.
Other guests included the entrepreneurs Juan Luis Cañas, Pepe Barreira and Sabin Azua, the former Secretary General of Elkargi, Jesús Alberdi; the former Minister for Industry, Javier Retegi; the Vice Ministers Juan Ignacio Motiloa and Estíbaliz Hernaez, parliamentarians, representatives of clusters and technological centres, together with customers and suppliers.
The event was hosted by the company's Managing Directors, Miguel and Agustín Lazpiur, who treated guests to a guided tour of the company premises.
Aside from looking back at the past, from when the company was first set up by José Lazpir Aguirrebalzategui, grandfather of the current managers, today's event has served to emphasize just how this Basque company has managed not only to elude the global financial crisis but also expand into the international market without compromising its values and commitments in terms of industry, innovation and its environment.
This family company designs and produces forging tools and machinery. It operates with multinational companies such as Ford, Mercedes, Volkswagen and TIER-1 suppliers such as Lear, GKN, NTN... It has registered around 20 patents and operates in 25 countries.
